Groveton native Kevin Parker knew that returning the Indians to past glory would not be an overnight task, which made last year's 3-7 a bit more bearable. However, the expectations will go higher for the well seasoned Indians, who return nine starters on each side of the ball. With a season in Coach Parker's system under their belts, the Indians enter play in the newly formed 10-2A, Division II. The Indians goal....a district championship |
Defense - For Groveton to return to the playoffs, improvement must come on the defensive side of the ball as the 2009 squad surrendered 36 points a game. Nine starters also return from that squad. Returning to lead things on the Indian defense will be senior linebacker Dustyn Leonard, who will joined by senior Teryance Horace and junior James Wars. The defensive line will be manned by Calvin, Watson and Dial. Williams will anchor the Indian secondary. |
Offense, which scored 19 points in 2008, returns nine starters. Among those returning is senior quarterback Calvin Williams. In the backfield along with Williams will be last year's leading rusher, and senior Calvin James. But also expect to see sophomore Jerome Runnells to see some time in the Indian backfield as well. The Indians will have an extremely experienced offensive line as 4 of last year's linemen, senior guards Dustyn Leonard and Adrian Calvin, as well as senior tackles Dylan Dial and Louis Watson. |
